Hey all, it appears that the acrylic framed Prusa i3 $400.00 printers are becoming more popular lately. I finally got the nerve to upgrade to a 1.75 filament hotend. I bought a $19.95 (shipped) hotend from aliexpress. For you with this printer and similar desires here is how it went. I drew and printed an adjustable endstop bracket which made Z home adjustment a breeze. New hotend was about 1/2" longer than stock hotend. I also had to sand the body to more easily slide into the hotend holder and put .042 plastic spacers between the fan bracket and holder because when hotend mounting screws were installed I had a fair amount of up and down movement. The spacers moved the groove down making the screws put upword pressure on it eliminating the slop. I did install a speed control pot on the fan for the fins because I didn't know what to expect as far as cold zone temps. A couple hours of rewiring and Z adjust and I was printing. It's amazing how fast the filament moves. I've been running at 240c with the 3mm but think that temps can be lower. Need to experiment. I did notice that this hotend has gone up to $32.00. You guys should try the convertion. I'm very happy.
