Lasercutting.

Hi,

I'm a first time builder. I ordered all the parts. But when i emailed the .DXF drwawing of the single sheet Alu frame for the Prusa i3 Rework I got an email back that the 3MM holes where not possible. They could only cut 4,2MM Does any one knows if this is a problem?

With regards,

Aron

What goes through the holes? I'm not so familiar with the design.

You could ask them to just etch a centre mark for the holes (usually possible) and drill them yourself.

So long as things get aligned properly and screwed together tight, that extra clearance in the hole shouldn't hurt.

Depends on the laser cutter in question I've seen 0.25mm holes put in as long as they are through holes

The waterjet we had at my last job was programmed to make a curved arc into the tool path so it would make small round holes as an oversized teardrop shape. We made our DXFs with points at the center of where we wanted small holes and it would do a standing pierce. They should be able to do an extremely small standing pierce with a laser that you can then open up with the appropriately sized drill for a really nice, clean, and properly-sized hole.

Water jet be better option you will get them to 2.5mm to be tapped out for 3mm bolts, as the parts are designed for 3mm bolts the drawing is wrong I got mine cut they was 3.2 had to tap out to 4mm then change holes in the brackets if you go down your road I'd change the holes on the to accommodate 5mm bolts if that's possible

Check my rubbish blog for my prusa i3
