Im sure he is looking for a free slicer and not a $150 slicer...Quote

There is "Simplify3D" wich I've heard some good things about.
They wouldnt even give a free trial to see if I like it before blowing 150 bucks!

True. And a valid point.Quote

Might be he was, but he did mention, in the original post, a company that occasionally do charge for their products, so I would think my suggestion still is valid.

I dont mind paying for something that works but without a demo or sample to test first I have a hard time giving up that much money on software.Quote

I don't regret paying the 150 dollars for Simplify3d, it is a great slicer with a lot of functionality.

If there is no monetary incentive for the developers, open source slicers will improve at snail pace. I think we will see better printers and software coming out of private sector than through open source.

History tends to show that this is false . . . . and the incentive is wanting the best without bending over for it.

Yeah, that's why Linux is embedded in 100's of enterprise class computing products . . . . and Windows is rarely seen in that space any more . . . From routers to tier-1 storage, it's everywhere . . .
A major aerospace vendor . . . . all flight sims are on Linux, as are development desktops . . . . yeah, there is proof of your point . . .a company that could afford *anything*, and guess what they use? Open source!
I suggest you look a little bit past the desktop, to where the real critical stuff is . . . if a desktop croaks, it's an annoyance, if a major device dies, it's a major outage . . .

Then the US Gov is using microsoft PC´s? They got hacked big time in april.
I´d say any software is hackable, as soon as there is an interest to do it. No one bothered hacking Linux in the past, because they were rare.
When Linux was all over the world, they´d become main goal for hackers, too

you would think that a Microsoft type company would be positioning to take over.
