Strange intermittent behavior when homing

I've been experiencing a strange issue with my custom Prusa I3,

occasionally when I try to home the device through the front LCD screen the extruder will go into what I think is a tool change routine instead. The only reason I think that its a tool change routine is because it retracts all my filament (at a very fast rate). Then dives into the bed throwing off my Z-level.

This only happens 1 out of every 10 times so its been hard to troubleshoot. When it doesn't do this it prints and works fine. I've reloaded the firmware a few times and it still has the same issue.

Any one have any ideas?

after thinking some more about this issue it seems like maybe the extruder is "homing" itself along with the X, Y, and Z axis.

Why this is idk.......

I'm going to dig into the marlin code some more.

bump.....

Issue still occurring intermittently.

It will happen 2/10 times I send the G28 command. Why would the same command produce different behaviors.....
