Heated bed causes motors to grind/skip steps

I have a prusa mendel "Durbie". It was a kit sold around 4 years ago. I just got it from a friend (never finished putting it together). Whenever I turn on the heated bed, the motors start grinding really bad and start skipping steps. Is that because there's not enough power for everything? The power supply I have is 12V 10A.

I tried tweaking the power to the motors, but that doesn't seem to have helped, and I feel like I'm "guessing and checking" the motor power, which seems like a bad idea.

The heated bed does work, and does give back sane temperatures.

The electronics board is a RAMPS board, but I'm unsure of the version number (due to lack of documentation).

Yes, if your printer has a standard 200x200mm PCB heat bed then the heated bed takes 10A all by itself. The minimum 12V PSU you should use is 20A, but I recommend 25A to have some leeway.

Thanks for the quick response. I ordered a new 25 amp power supply. Will report back in a few days with results (for future makers).
