What is the correct turn direction of the extruder motor?

I'm testing the my extruder motor in pronterface.

With my printer facing me
I press extrude in pronterface and the gear turns away from me
If I press reverse it turns toward me

Is this correct?
If not will reversing the pin connection on my ramps cause any issues

It depends on your extruder type. However if you find it is feeding backward, just reverse ( turn180 dergees)the connection on your control board
