y-axis move noise

Hello,

I've build a prusa i3 and I have noises on some y-axis moves you can hear it there : y-move noise video

Is this normal noise ? What could I do to avoid this ?

Hi,

Maybe the stepper driver is applying too much voltage, this is a reason for noisy operation. Acceleration and jerk settings could also be a reason.

do you have microstepping enabled? i ran my printer with 0 microstepping for a little while and it was really loud

What sort of bearings and how many of them are there attached to the undercarriage?

It sounds like slop in the bearings is allowing the undercarriage to rattle.

Mine does the same thing. Its the cheap LM8UU bearings rattling on the rods.

Nothing to be surprised !
The LM bearings are most probably OK but NOT the rods ! Most suppliers send regular SS rods which are not g6, h6 class. You have to replace them with proper hardened steel rods designed for.

I did that on my Geetech, plus made a pair a bearing holders for one rod to give some tension with some flexibility to avoid binding and therefore marring the ball/rod. Two rods plus two set of bearing means the system is overconstrained and as the frame is not really rigid you can't have a perfect alignment of the rods that will last.

On X and Z as they are most probably under tension, therefore less play thus less noise.

Now the only annoying noise is the power supply fan.
