Help with firmware
May 08, 2016 07:29AM
I am in the process of building a 3D printer base on the Arduino/RAMPS.

I am not having any problems with the mechanical or electronic side things.

What I am having problems with is the firmware. I have done a bit of research.
Marlin and Repeiter both seem to like they would meet my needs. Is one better
than the others? Or is there another alternative out there that I should consider?

Bear in mind I have absolutely no experience with firmware whatsoever.

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Marlin and Repetier-firmware are both good. They have very similar capabilities and the pros and cons are really quite small. There are several other good firmwares out there, but Marlin and Repetier-firmware are the only two I have used so far. I currently use Repetier-firmware and I think it's probably the easier of the two to get started with, mostly because it has an online configuration tool that is fairly easy to use. See [www.repetier.com]

Info on the other firmwares can be found here: [reprap.org]

Thanks. I will look through all that. I think i might go with Repetier to start with.
