Are you running 12V or 24V?
Do you have a low voltage (12V or 24V) heated bed?

I published a wiki page on this topic at [duet3d.com]. It's written with users of Duet electronics in mind, but you can substitute the power consumption of whatever electronics and LCD you are using.

Large delta printer [miscsolutions.wordpress.com], E3D tool changer, Robotdigg SCARA printer, Crane Quad and Ormerod

Disclosure: I design Duet electronics and work on RepRapFirmware, [duet3d.com].

you should have 240W for your heat bed , the heat head print is think around 100w something im not sure . My DIY 3D printer what I'm building now is use the 12VDC 500W ATX Power Supply for it

I also have the Melzi Ardentissimo board on my DIY printer.

I lost the original power supply for the board and want to get it back working again. I see from comments that a 12V input is fine... I have an old laptop cord that says output is 12V, 1.0 A. Will that work okay?
(This is a three axis- X, Y, Z- printer so it has three motors and the printhead.) I don't know how to make 1 Amp = ___ Watts...

And if I want to add a heat bed, I probably need need more Amps? I see stevenkw1 prescribes 240 watts, yes?

That full 12 Watt wont power much.

A quick google would have told you how to calculate the watts, and DC42 posted a link on how much Amps you should need to run your printer

I have always assumed 5A for the hot end and steppers with another 10-12A for a heated bed if you have one. A cheap 12V 5-7A power supply should be easy to find.

my first prusa mendel was powered off a 200 watt power supply, so 12V at about 16 amp. This was for 5 1.8° steppers and a 200*200 PCB heat bed and nozzle, It would let me print with a hotend temp of about 240°C and bed temp of 100°C

I would say if you are going to buy a power supply anyway, get one that could handle a heated bed in the future
