Download Melzi firmware

Hi, I have an Icarus 3D Printer (mendel2) with a Melzi controller.
I try to download the firmware from the board so I can make some adjustments for an LCD and re-upload it.

Is it possible to download the current firmware from the board and how?

You can only download a binary image not the code. You cannot modify this... (well technically you can, but you it takes months and you need to be a machine code genius)

A binary image is only good as a backup. Google avrdude backup firmware for details.

You need your supplier to provide you with firmware

Or you start from scratch with a new firmware and make it run with your board.

hi, thank you for your reply. It does make sense!
I now have a the Marlin firmware, the supplier also sent me the original file but I get plenty of errors in the IDE even before changing anything. So i'm not sure they are the right ones.

Do you have any experience with the repetier firmware, some say it works better than the Marlin one.

The version of marlin that the supplier sent you may need a particular version of Arduino IDE to work correctly.

You may be better off downloading fresh Marlin from Github, makign sure you have Arduino 1.6.8 or newer, and transplanting the settings from the one the supplier sent you.
