What are the cutouts in a Prusa Y-axis bed frame for?

OK, time for silly beginner questions. I've searched and can't find the reasoning.

What are the cutouts in a Prusa Y-axis bed frame for? The front and back ones allow more Y-travel, but what about the ones in the middle of the plate?

This matters because I'm about to dump the acrylic plate and cut both a Y-axis plate and a heated bed holder from 3mm aluminum. I'm doing this to move the bed leveling/height adjusters to the left and right of the heated bed, and to move the adjusting knobs to the top of the bed, not the bottom. And I wondered if I have to cut out all those holes.

you pretty much have to follow the cutouts as it has to clear the y axis motor on the back and the belt idler pulley on the front. the side cutouts not necessary but front and back are
