REPRAPGURU - Prusa i3 Kit - Where does the Extruder fan plug into?
February 25, 2018 05:45PM
Hello!

I have the [REPRAPGURU] DIY RepRap Prusa I3 3D Printer Kit:

I'm following these two guides:
- [youtu.be]
- [drive.google.com]

In the video, the instructor says the D9 terminals slots are for a "print cooling fan" and the Extruder fan should be plugged directly into the power supply. This contradicts what's listed in the PDF which reads "Connect the Fan wires to the blue screw terminals marked “D9” on the RAMPS board".

Here is the cable that runs off of the extruder fan:
Extruder Cable

Here is the RAMPS board:

Any thoughts? Should i cut and strip the wire? Its weird that it already has the piece at the end.

Thanks for all the info!!!!

Looks like this was resolved. I cut and stripped the wire and connected it to the D9 terminal

The extruder fan should be connected to permanent 12 volt from the power input socket, this to keep the filament cool before it reaches the heater block.
D9 is used for the part cooling fan so it can be turned on/off as needed via G-codes

On the RAMPs there should be 2 pins next to the diode - they will provide 12v for the extruder fan.
See the attached image - its the 2 pins on the right of the diode, left of the capacitor
Use a multi-meter to see which is + and -
