Stepper motor help
February 04, 2016 04:41AM
I bought a printer but one of the stepper motors was faulty. I had to wait for a replacement coming from china so decided to buy a set from ebay. When they arrived I tried them in the printer but they just vibrated. I tried changing the current with the driver pot but no luck. I investigated further to discover that the set that came with the printer were 2.7 volt and the ones from ebay were 12v. I now have a set of 12v steppers that I am unsure how to use. Do I need a better driver board or am I missing something fundamental. The current ratings were the same @ 0.4A

Steppers voltages are somewhat miss leading, you need 3 or more times the rated voltage to drive them

So you need a 36 volt system....

You would need completely different external stepper drivers, something like drivers + a 36v power supply...

These steppers sound like they are more aimed at CNC machines
