Prusa i3 printing above bed

in an attempt to correct the z axis steps per mm that came uploaded on my machine i uploaded firmware supplied by the seller with the correct setting and now it is trying to print about 10 mm above the bed. slicing software is cura, firmware is marlin, and board is mks base 1.3. i have been at it for hours now and am at a loss as to what setting is messed up. the machine homes properly via the lcd screen.

here is my configuration.h

I take it your Z end stop is triggering at the correct position yes?

Is that your whole Configuation.h? it looks too short. Unless its a really old version i've not seen before!

Your steps/mm has nothing to do with where your hot end is situated above the bed. That is what your Z endstop is for. Somehow you must have bumped it or it got hung up on your USB cord.

Folger Tech 2020 i3 and FT-5 as well as modified JGAurora A5 with direct drive E3D/Titan. All running the BLTOUCH.
Great kits. Having fun and running the heck out of them.
Running Marlin 1.1.0 RC8 on the i3 and FT5. Custom firmware on A5.

that was just the mechanical settings section. i know it has nothing to do with the steps/mm but i was starting from scratch with a newer release of marlin and was worried that i had missed something in the mechanical settings section. its working fine now. it was an odd occurance, i was a few feet from the printer and the usb cord is nowhere near any moving parts.

If it's working fine now, then you moved the Z end stop, correct?

nope i did not touch the endstop. i uploaded a different firmware and it started working correctly.

hot smiley

It sure would be nice to know WHY. Have you compared the two versions? I couldn't sleep until I knew why another install solved the 'problem'.

when i did compare i couldnt see anything out of place. not saying that there wasnt, as i am still very new to dealing with adjusting the firmware.
