H3D Prusa XI3 kit - motors wiring differ from the manual confused smiley

Hi everyone, I am a new user. First printer and first post here - please be gentle.

I am at the wiring stage of HE3D Prusa XI3 kit. The instructions are very unclear (language barrier) and I am struggling with connecting NEMA 17 motors to RAMPS 1.4

The step 2 of extruder wiring here [reprap.org] states that I should "plug the motor wires connect into EO on the control board" and the picture shows the sequence of wire colors on the connector as: green-black-blue-red. My connectors (which came attached to the motors in the kit) are black-green-blue-red. The order of wires coming from the motor (looking at the shaft) is black-missing-green-blue-missing-red.
At the same time, the RAMPS circuit here [reprap.org] warns that "inserting stepper drivers incorrectly will destroy electronics" - I am afraid my shiny new printer will burst into flames and smoke as soon as I flip the power switch.

I tried searching the forum and could not find any good keywords, getting many pages of results that appear to be unrelated. I tried searching for NEMA 17 datasheets but the ones I found had entirely different colors.

What do I do? What would happen if I plug the motors "randomly"? (I tentatively connected wires-to-board as black-to-green, green-to-black, blue-to-blue, red-to-red).

Use a multi-meter to check wire pairs:

[reprap.org]

Pairs go side by side when wiring to the RAMPS/controller board

Thanks, SteveRoy.

I also got the same advise from the seller. According to them, their kits don't assume any specific colors coding. I just made sure that wires 1-2 form a coil, 3-4 form another coil and 2-3 are not connected. That being checked, it should be safe to plug the connectors into the board. Reverse polarity will result in the the motors rotating in the opposite direction, but that's not too dangerous.

I will try connecting the motors and testing whole thing later today - fingers crossed! Yesterday I did try to power the printer on with motors disconnected - the power adapter fan was blowing and some LEDs on the RAMPS were lit, but that's it - the LCD was staying dark. That's another question, though.

Yeah, worry about the LCD last. Get the motors and end stops working, tune the printer, then worry about the LCD.

A multi-meter is your friend when building one of these.
Cheers
