Printer Side Error Troubleshooting

Hi, all...

I'm completely new to the 3D Printing world and would like some help troubleshooting my printer. I completed the assembly and am attempting to connect to it so I can finish the configuration. Whenever I connect to it with "Repetier-Host," I receive the following error:
A fatal error on the printer side stopped the printer until the error is fixed. Printer message:
Error: Printer stopped due to errors. Fix the error and use M999 to restart. (Temperature is reset. Set it after ----- This is where the dialog box gets cut off.

In the Repetier-Host log, it states the following:
: Extruder switched off. MINTEMP triggered !

Any idea where to start? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This is a issue with your hot end thermistor. It can't read any sane value from it so it stops everything till its fixed.

Repetier should be showing you the hot end temperature somewhere, this should be room temp before you start heating.

If you have a multi meter unplug the thermistor plug from the board and take a resistance reading threw the cables and thermister, its should read around 100K in a 25C room. I suspect this will be open circuit, ie broken somewhere

Dust:

I believe you are correct. The hot-end is reporting 0 degrees Celsius. The probes on my multimeter are too large to get a reading so, I decided to swap the heated bed thermistor with the hot end thermistor and the Repetier software allowed me to continue. Clearly this is not safe to operate with but it narrowed down the problem. I have ordered a new thermistor; should be here tomorrow. I'll post an update after the swap.

Thank you for your help! After reading the error messages and thinking through the problem more thoroughly, your explanation of the problem makes sense. I just wasn't expecting a failure 'right out of the box'.

Also, the temperatures are in the bottom status bar; in both the Linux & Windows Repetier-Host V1.6.1.
