Extruder lacking consistency

I've got a FolgerTech 2020 I3 and recently started printing with it. The first things that I started to print were some verification/calibration shapes and I noticed that the walls aren't smooth, they have little diagonal waves going through them and the walls themselves aren't consistent in width. Any pointers to what the problem could be is appreciated! Here are two pictures to show what I mean.
