1.5.8 was a beta release of arduino, please don’t use that

grab 1.6.13 from [www.arduino.cc]

your using a firmware thats from the stone age...

a long time ago in a galaxy far away someone in their infinite wisdom decided that fpos_t would make a nice reserved keyword in the newer ardunio ide. Breaking all stone age reprap firmware.

If its still using the same file names you have to edit two files SdBaseFile.h and SdBaseFile.cpp

find all occurrences of fpos_t and change it to something else eg filepos_t

Do not miss any, or it will not work.

you have to edit two files SdBaseFile.h and SdBaseFile.cpp
Open the Arduino IDE, Open the Marlin Folder, and open the Marlin arduino file. The two files mentioned above will be tabs at the top of the page.

Ctrl+F will help you locate the offending text.

It works, it does. [forums.reprap.org] And it's a good excuse to play around in the firmware coding. Just make a copy, and name the copy 'somethingsomethingBackup'. That way if you have to start fresh, you don't have to go far.

FWIW; You could create more headache for yourself going to a newer version of Marlin than 'modding' the firmware you have that is working. i.e. "Now I have it compiled, but my stepper motors aren't running the right direction".

com3 is open by some other program, or windows is being windows and the machine needs a reboot.

or device has moved to a different com port, or you just havent plugged the board in.

You can only have one program talking to a com part at any one time. So you cant run arduino and say pronterface at the same time.

Best to reboot and make sure nothing else is using the com port

now you have broken the configuration.h so its not compiling...

If your lucky you have just lost the last line
#endif // CONFIGURATION_H

if not then you need to get a new configuration.h and compare it with what you had and work out what you did.

Been a while (6 months) since I used my Folgertech i3 Acrylic. Having to start anew as my old computer was stolen. I'm using Windows 7 and was wondering which is the best Arduino/Marlin/RepetierHost firmware combination. I have a 2004 LCD screen and would like to use it. Trying to remember which versions I was using before...not sure. Any help would be great. Thanks
