Problems with Prusa i3 Tronxy
June 09, 2017 04:49PM
Just got this printer and I am a newbie to 3d printing.
First; the wiring system has been checked and checked and checked again with the wiring diagram. It is correct.
Second; when trying to 'home', X axis moves abount an inch to the right, Y axis does not move at all, and Z does what is expected but is not yet adjusted.
When trying to 'Position', X,Y, and Z axis will move only one way.

Also, what happens when pressing the reset button. What exactly does it reset?

The labeling on the main board is, Melzi 2.0_v5.

Any help at all appreciated.

I don't know about Melzi, but on a RAMPS its like a 'kill switch' (power reset).

Also, do you have a multimeter. If not, buy one, someone with more electronics exp than me will probably give you some things to check.

Have you tested the endstops with a M119 command?

What are the voltages on the drivers - if the Melzi has them?

Thanks for replying.

I only wanted to post one problem at a time, however...
Cura and other 3d software can not find the printer because of 'com port' problems.
Do not know how to find answers to your questions with just the onboard LCD.
Yes, I have a voltmeter... somewhere. I'll have to find it today.

Found voltmeter... had to go get a new battery.
Z voltage = 5 vdc.
Y voltage = PROBLEM!
With end stop unpluged, when touching negative lead from voltmeter to black connection on mainboard... printer turns off. Tried 4 times.
X voltage = 5 vdc.

Ideas welcomed.

5V !!!! End stops normally read 12V.
Are you getting 12v to the board?
You say there is a problem with the comms so you are working with the display controls only but is that working with the PSU or only when connected to a computer.
If it only works when connected to a computer you may just be getting 5V via the USB and nothing from the PSU.
Its has been known for the supplied document to be wrong. And some times the instructions don't translate very well.
I can only suggest you check the wiring again.

No. 9.8V.

Can not get it recognized by my W7 laptop or Ubuntu PC. Do not think that is the printer's fault.

Trying to get it replaced but having trouble with seller.
