Hi,
why does the X axis only use 3 bearings.
I would think that four would be more stable, that also goe for the Y axis

4 is over constrained, unless your rails are 100% parallel it causes issues with to much friction at the end that is off

no home machine has rails that are 100% parallel

In fact, the 3 commonly used are still over constrained but the flexibility of the mount (tie wrap, slit cylinder, plastic frame), the excessive play avoid binding.
With 4, it may not be flexible enough, thus more likely to bind.
So, a crappy mount to compensate for a crappy assembly smiling smiley

Ok, Sorry I have bee a bit slack in replying.
I have been waiting till I have fitted the bed plate, and I have managed to use four bearings with out them being constrained, as you put it.
concerning the statement that no home built machine has rails that are 100% parallel. sorry mine are. the plate was not bought ready made.
I shall have to wait some time before I can test the X movement.
Thanks for you input.
