RIP ReprapPro

From the Reprap pro website -

We have decided to close RepRap Professional Ltd.

The company will cease trading on Friday 15 January 2016. We will service all support and warranty requests up to that date, and fulfill all our outstanding orders.

I wonder if the community will still continue to back the Fisher printer, I was hoping that the multi coloured print head might come out this year.

Sad news indeed. They quote "The market for low-cost 3D printers is now so crowded and so competitive that a small specialist company like ours cannot expand." There are indeed a lot of low-cost 3D printer kits on the market, but from reading the forums, it is evident that these kits are generally of low quality, with poor documentation and next to no support. It is very sad that a company that provided good quality kits (even if they didn't get the designs quite right first time), and good quality electronics instead of the cheap Arduino/RAMPS c**p that everyone else supplies, found it too hard to grow in the face of competition from kits that at first sight cost less.

Fortunately, Think3DPrint3D has carried the Duet forward with the 0.8.5 board. I have found them an excellent company to deal with and I recommend them. Their Mini Kossel R3 kit doesn't have the low price of the Fisher, but it has a larger build area and a heated bed - as well as carbon fibre arms. [Full disclosure: and my IR Z probe.]

Large delta printer [miscsolutions.wordpress.com], E3D tool changer, Robotdigg SCARA printer, Crane Quad and Ormerod

Disclosure: I design Duet electronics and work on RepRapFirmware, [duet3d.com].

This is very sad news indeed, I have followed RepRap for a very long time and have only just been bought a printer for Christmas this year, hopefully there will still be plenty of support because there is a strong community, assuming that this forum stays online past the 15th.

But it is a real shame that now I have my wonderful Fisher 1 I will not see any official product progression.

I was wondering why the shop wasn't working over the hols. Too bad. The Fisher is very good for what it is but they can't be making enough money on it. Lots of unrealistic expectations for the price.

Looks like RS will be selling Omerod 2's for cheap soon.

Dear all:

Closing-down of RRP-UK is a sad news for our customers and supporters ,it is also pity to RRP-China. As mentioned in reprappro.com, RRP-China will continue our business . We will announce which service could be provided to our customers outside of China in due course.
Many thanks for your continuous support!

(sorry for repeated message here)

Shame, part of the reason I went with RRP was the good support they provided to my dad when he got his Ormerod. Hopefully someone else will provide spares. Wish I'd ordered a second bed when I ordered the printer; I nearly did, just figured I'd get one later.
