Help! Connecting Sanguinololu to computer/Print run

Hi Everyone,

I have no idea what I am doing. I have built my machine (Prusa) and now want to be able to connect it and run it via my laptop. I have installed the FTDI drivers from the FTDI website as this is what my supplier of my Sanguinololu has told me to do.

When I plug in my Sanguinololu nothing shows up. I have also installed Python and have no idea how to run it or what I'm even supposed to be running. I thought it would be easier than this. If someone could talk me through how to set up my printer I would be very grateful.

I have also tried installing and running whatever I can from the below wiki:
[reprap.org]

Please help as at this stage I am fearing I can not get my 3d printer to work by myself.

Hi

What OS?

Does the LED light up when you plug the board into the USB?

Python is a language interpreter, it is only needed to run python applications (such as pronterface)

step 1) the hardware has to recognize the FTDI

I suspect your running windows?

Open up your device manager
Look at the serial ports, plug in the Sanguinololu, does the LED turn on? Does the computer now show an additional serial port?

Once this is working we can move on to step 2.

Thanks,

I went on IRC to find help and a fellow NZer helped me out. If you are stuck with anything try chatting with someone on there.

The link is below:
[webchat.freenode.net]

Just use any nickname and type reprap in channels.
