Cheap electronics on deal extreme!

DX has finally started selling RAMPS and stepstick.
Free shipping to NZ! I order quite a bit of stuff off here, they're a good site.

RAMPS $50.50USD free shipping

Stepstick $11.30 USD not the cheapest I've seen, but free shipping

There a heap of Arduino mega clones available for around $20USD as well.

No stepper motors or heated beds that I've seen yet.

Looks like the 3 small capacitors have been replaced by tiny surface mount ones? - or are they missing? (RAMPS bd)

Only problem I see is that DX is overloaded with order from all over the world and they take sometimes 2 months to deliver. Also, if the part arrives defective, preprare yourself for a endless refund process.
On eBay I get the same price and the seller is concerned about his reputation, hence better service.

Caps are also 16v, so if your thinking of running a 24 volt system, you will have to upgrade them.

The smaller caps do look like they have been replaced with surface mount. To what effect if any.. who knows.

Really looks like the ramps made by reprapdiscount, except she usually seems to use 35V caps.

Maybe they just bought some bulk PCB from her, or ordered a batch with the cheaper options available.

Most of my technical comments should be correct, but is THIS one ?
Anyway, as a rule of thumb, always double check what people write.

Hmm you guys are right, they do look a lot like reprapdiscount but with cheaper components. Not much of a price difference either.
What do people run 24V systems for? Just the heated bed and hot end?

Higher voltage could be used for motors too. No experience in the matter personally.

Many are starting to run their steppers on 24volt. Gives alot more power and a higher top speed.
And yes they are good for 24volt Heated bed pates

Here is a nice doc on going 24v with ramps if anyones intersted
