I'm already aware of at least one other Dunedinite (hi Paul!).

Are there any others?

I'm hoping to have my machine as a 2 extruder fully fledged Darwin by the end of Feb next year.

If any of you got the Star in your mailbox this week you will have noticed on the front page a picture of Alistair Regan from the Otago Polytechnic with a 3D printer in the background.

I've sent him a quick email to see if he's interested in pointing his students towards Reprap or helping us out. Fingers crossed.

Forum created. Hop in and introduce yourself, and feel free to put up an announcement on builders.reprap.org.

Let me know if you also want a separate all-of-New Zealand forum. It's worth pinging Simon McAuliffe and Vik Olliver, since they're both kiwis.

This thread will self-destruct after a day of inactivity.

Hey all,

maybe a general NZ forum would be better? (I'm in Hamilton).

I received my rods and M8 studding today, and a few of the electronic components so I can get started with the stepper controllers, pwm controllers, and the main mcu. Ian (http://www.bitsfrombytes.com) is supplying moulded RP parts and extruder hardware with reasonable shipping from the UK.

I'm planning to work on the stepper controller first with a couple of Minebea 23KM-C051-07V steppers that I found on TradeMe. I've sourced the L293, TIP120, and optoswitches from Farnell (http://nz.farnell.com), and the L298Ns and Epcos B57540G104J thermistor from Digikey (http://www.digikey.com) (US$3.25ea for the L298Ns, and US$4.10 for the thermistor, shipping was US$27). I'm going to use protoboards to start with for the circuits, and initially re-use an LPC2148 ARM mcu as the controller.

I'm looking forward to getting my Darwin live and kicking in the next few months.

Reece, thanks for the advice and pointers :-)

Darran.

Thanks for the thanks :-)

Yeah, maybe a NZ group would be better. I was hoping to be quite a bit further ahead than I am by now and have another couple of people in Dunedin working on Repraps. Oh well, nothing good is easy.

BTW, heres a NZ company doing what could be a way to make the best use of a limited amount of repraps in the next few years:
