Board loosing connection when PSU is switched on

I have a MKS SBASE 1.3 that I am trying to set up. I have successfully managed to put Marlin on it using PlatformIO via Virtual Code Studio. However, I was trying to test the board by connecting a PSU (converted EVGA 500
and a motor and then trying to control it via Pronterface. However, whenever I connect the PSU the board immediately looses connection via USB and when when the PSU is turned off the board connects. In addition, when the PSU is powered on the motor locks up and can not be moved by hand. I am unsure why the board can not communicate with the PSU on. Any advice will be appreciated.
