What sort of communications error?

That was the whole message - either a communication error (not specified) or a timeout error.

Slicer: Simplify3D 4.0; sometimes CraftWare 1.14 or Cura 2.7
Delta with Duet-WiFi, FW: 1.20.1RC2; mini-sensor board by dc42 for auto-leveling
Ormerod common modifications: Mini-sensor board by dc42, aluminum X-arm, 0.4 mm nozzle E3D like, 2nd fan, Z stepper nut M5 x 15, Herringbone gears, Z-axis bearing at top, spring loaded extruder with pneumatic fitting, Y belt axis tensioner
Ormerod 2: FW: 1.19-dc42 on Duet-WiFi. own build, modifications: GT2-belts, silicone heat-bed, different motors and so on. Printed parts: bed support, (PSU holder) and Y-feet.
Ormerod 1: FW: 1.15c-dc42 on 1k Duet-Board. Modifications: Aluminium bed-support, (nearly) all parts reprinted in PLA/ ABS, and so on.

Where the the communication error message come from: DWC, or USB host program, PanelDue, or somewhere else?

Ajax communication error at the web-interface and then I have to reconnect to the printer. The PanelDue isn't connected and it happens with my Ormerod 1 that printer that already had killed two Duet boards. I am afraid that the third one will follow soon.

The only known cause of watchdog resets is, and has been for many versions, a hardware lockup. Two suggestions:

1. Check that the screws on the power input terminal block to the Duet are tight, also the ones on the PSU if it uses screw terminals.

2. If you have a USB cable connected to the Duet while printing, try printing from SD card with the USB cable disconnected.

something else?
screws are tight.... USB it was an experience of two years ago...
the next printing has gone well.. as usual..

what to check yet?

change the PSU could be the solution?

Nice part, I see you used it before

Is it done in PLA, does it not lead to problems with the heat?

Guilty!

I designed this part. First I printed it in PLA, but the screws are getting hot, so it melted. I didn't expected that the screws could get so hot. Normally this part consists of four pieces. I reprinted it in ABS now and will soon test it. But to be honest I think the bed support needs either advanced PLA (melting point somewhere at 140°C) or even better with aluminium. The bed carriage part could still be printed in one piece. It supports also the original bed support. I slightly changed the design, but I did not upload it yet. I am not happy with the optimizations.

I'm printing PLA only, the allu-plate is 27/30 C° (room 21)...so... no problems

@Treito
Yes you are Guilty!
The working plate is your full printed [www.thingiverse.com]
The printed one is just a reassembly of dxf parts

But no way for the rare random duet reset...... It remains a mystery sad smiley

Hi Dario, please upgrade to 1.12a, which is the current released version, in case it fixes the problem. I wouldn't expect a bad PSU to cause watchdog resets, although I guess a mains transient getting through the PSU could.

Further update from me re Speed

supplied 4Gb mSd card - 640 to 650KiB/s consistently

Now it gets freaky I grabbed a very fast Toshiba 32Gb mSD card I keep as spare capacity for the camera, and that is fast write as well as read, the copy of the base directories was close to 10Mb/S when plugged into the computer and inline with expectations of this card.

It was freshly formatted to Fat32 using SDFormatter to ensure it was clean and ready to go.

Inserted into Duet and booted, copied 25Mb file sad smiley
got nothing better than 250KiB/s

Put original card back in and back to 640

the Toshiba card has been used in various micro computers and this is by far the worst I've seen.

My SD-card achieves up to 750 KiB/s.
It's a Toshiba micro-SD 8Gb, UHS-1 class.
