Other than the dual extruder, I am running all that with an 8 amp 24 volt power supply. I measured the system using a bit more than 4 amps at the max. If running 12 volts, it would be a bit over 8 amps.

kind of a newb on PSUs ...wont 24 volts blow up the board?...or does the board now how to break down the input power.

The Duet can handle up to 36v if I remember correctly. I am running with 24v and it hasn't blown up yet. smiling smiley

one more rookie question...does having more amps matter?you say you have a 24 v 8 amp psu...what if i had a 24v 12 am psu

Anything over 6 amps should be fine. If you are currently running at 12v, you will have to change fans and the heater on the hot end.

I made a mistake with the amperage numbers. It is a 4 amp supply I am using and the system uses a bit over 2 amps.

Here is the power supply I am using...

Since you are running a DC heated bed, it would be fine. Better to have too much power available and not use it, than too little and need it.

The Duet Wifi cannot handle 50 amps, it can't realistically handle more than 25 amps at *most*. Heated bed channel is rated at 15A, each hotend at around 4A, stepper motors drivers total about 2A. (remember that a stepper motor driver in our applications that is set to 2 amps draws considerably less than 2 amps).

A 24v system would be better if attempting to maximize heated bed wattage.

As long as the power for the heated bed is controlled off the board (i.e. mechanical or solid state relay), and not through the on board mosfet, the 50A supply will be fine. The board itself will only use about 5A.

my 18" heat bed has its own power supply. it draws 42 amps.

With that 50A unit, it could do both the DuetWiFi and the heated bed so you could get rid of the extra one.

even with an 18 inch bed that draws 42 amps?
thank you for all your help elmo.
im doing another smaller build for my nephew also with 20mm extrusion..so i can use the other psu...

this is the heatbed i ordered if anyone is interested in doing a large format build.

Given that at 24V, my board, with a 7" PanelDue only draws a bit over 2A, at 12V, your board will use about 4 or 5 amps. So it should work fine. 42 for the bed + 5 for the board = 47A. That is cutting into the buffer some, but if you use PID on the bed, the amount of current the bed uses will drop.

i actually did search...so laymans term...it jsut chokes down the voltage?

It switches the power on and off; the voltage stays the same. When the temperature drops below a certain point, power is turned on for a moment determined by the PID parameters.
