Sneak peek on the Bloft MK2 3D-printer

Hey

I'm happy to give you a first peek on our printer that we are currently building. The Bloft MK2 is based on Tobben's HP4 which we will extend with moving ABC-anchorpoints. We will have a modular frame based on stage trusses. The ABC-anchor's will glide on those trusses in the Z-axis. That will enable a cylindrical print volume making it more useable for tall objects.

Total height of the frame will be 4.5 m
Footprint diameter of approx. 4 m
We will have to see where the max. print height will settle in, but we're aiming for 3-3.5 m, which would equal to 2.5-2.8 m3 print volume.

The frame will be made of aluminium trusses and steel corners. The end effector is made of bend 1.5 mm sheet metal to achieve a good mix of (relative) lightness and sturdy structure. On the end effector we will attach the Badass Pellet Extruder with currently 1.5 kg/h output. Our goal is to print shredded waste plastic.

Hopefully, we can fire up the beast in august/september. More to follow.

We reached today a big milestone!
Finally the frame is standing on its feet.
In the coming weeks, we will be adding hardware to the frame and eventually start testing the electronics and firmware.

Fast forward a month and a half, and you got this
A very rigid, yet light, frame based on static trusses and tensioned steel wire cables. We got also rid of the Mad Max look & feel of the already corroded steel surface. Now all steel parts are galvanized and have a nice black oxide surface. The 90% assembled printer will be exhibited at the main venue of the Helsinki Design Week 11.-13. September 2020. So, if you happen to be around come by and say hi!

Hi

Long time no see. This time though, we made major leaps in getting the printer ready.
May I present, the first life signs of the Bloft MK2 video

Next week we will do a complete simulation run with gcode to see how it will perform and to see if there are any mechanical issues to be solved. We did already a short run with the full payload (extruder) of around 10 kg without issues. Makes me confident for next week. It's really exciting now, and we are now close to the point of getting first test prints
