Loading Marlin and getting gibberish [Fixed]
March 02, 2012 10:55AM
Hello all.
I feel like an idiot for having this issue, but for some reason every time I load marlin firmware (both new and old releases) onto my Mendel I get gibberish when I connect with Pronterface. I've been working with sprinter loaded as my firmware and Pronterface seems to have no issue with it, however Sprinter under-preforms on the curves I'm trying to do (hence the attempt to change the firmware).

The board I'm using is an Arduino Mega 2560 with RAMPS 1.4
My OS is Windows 7 and the version of Arduino I'm using to load the firmware is v0023 (v1.0 only seems to choke and die so I went back to an earlier, stable version).

I'd appreciate any help you could give me in fixing this matter.

Thanks.

Have you checked the your baud rates match. It's one of the first settings in the Marlin configuration.h file and is also prominent in pronterface. sprinters default was 115200 Marlins is higher at 250000. Double check these match.

If they do match and you are still getting rubbish, try turning the Marlins rate down to the 115200 and adjust in pronterface to match. Some USB ports/PCs don't like the higher speeds

Make sure your baud rates in firmware match the baud rate in pronterface.

Sprinter's default is 115200 and Marlin's is 250000.

I'm using windows XP and have no problem running at 250000 baud.
