Anyone planning a Makerbot order?

Is anyone planning to order their electronics (or whatever) from MakerBot in the US? I need a magnetic rotary encoder PCB, which I can't find anywhere in Europe, but from MakerBot I'd pay £1.22 for the PCB + £17.42 postage + £2.80 VAT + £8 handling charge = £29.43 which is ridiculous for a $2 pcb. I HATE paying more in p+p than the cost of the goods!

So does anyone want to do a combined order & share postage costs? If you're ordering one of the electronics kits, the postage charges don't seem so steep (since they're constant, except the VAT).

Thanks!

Barney.

Maybe more cost effective to get a local pcb fab to make the board, the designs are open source and on sourceforge.

I know what you mean. It's a lot of postage.

I've been thinking about possibly getting some UK PCBs made up too. However, it's difficult to justify - I have a working set of gen 2 electronics - getting a gen3 set 'because I want to'.

:-)

Does anyone else have experience getting boards made up?
