New to RepRap and looking to buy Prusa from The RepRap kit store
April 20, 2012 06:11PM
Just introducing myself.

Got a bonus coming.

Wife thinks we need new doors in the house.

I want to spend some of bonus on RepRap machine from The RepRap Kit Store.

What's the best way of either convincing her or hiding it from her?

Joking aside, has anyone successfully built one of the Prusa machines from the RepRap Kit Store?

Are these machines robust and reliable enough to be useful or am I going to be disappointed and frustrated? I want to use it to get my son interested in engineering, design and software engineering. Any one else had experience of this?

I've successfully built one of their kits.

However, don't expect much in the way of support from them. One of the reasons I chose them was that they appeared to have detailed instructions for the kit. The instructions were "in progress" at the time, and progressed for a while, but then stopped. They never finished them, and are now selling a slightly different kit. Fortunately the instructions are on the RepRap Wiki so others can add to them.

They are also poor at responding to email. In response to my last question, I just got two automated replies, a week apart, both saying that they endeavour to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours.

Apart from that, I found them a good way to get a complete set of parts at a reasonable price.
i am also looking into buying a kit from the reprap kit store.

they are legit?

the price looks great and i - as a reprap newby - like the details of the "complete" kit.

so its save to order there?
I would not recommend it.
Ordered mine on 21 March. On the site it said it was supposed to be delivered in 13 April.
I only received an automated confirmation of purchase.

I asked for more details, got an answer after a week.

In 13 April I asked about the delivery status since I didn't receive anything. Got an answer in 16 saying it will be delivered in 20.
In 23 April I got an email that the item was shipped and I received it in about a week.

When I opened the package, there was a letter saying they had some supplier problems and couldn't ship the electronic parts and the heated bed. They said those parts will be shipped in a week.

Currently it's been 4 days since I'm waiting for an offer from them for new electronics and still no answer yet.

My conclusion is that if you're really cash-strapped and time is not an issue, you can order from here. I know I won't be making the same mistake twice.

Greetings,
i can offer a kit for the same price, but without the electronic mounting plate.
Some things need to be done, dont know about shipping cost from austria to the uk.
And i need to know what about the import taxes...
If anyone is interested just pm me for details!

Best regards,
Benny

There's no doubt that they're "legit". They're just over-optimistic about their supplies and very poor at communication.
