Sanguinololu firmware/communication

Hi All,

I've just started out to build my printer and stumbled at the first hurdle! I've bought and assembled a Sanguinololu board and checked the USBTTL comms (seems to work fine) but I can't manage to get any firmware to load into the Atmel.

I'm using Ubuntu 13.04, tried a few versions of the Arduino IDE (one in the Ubuntu repos, Two from Arudino website)

I've managed to get Repetier firmware to compile but not to upload.
The error is avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

Update:- The IDE says upload successful, using both Marlin and Repetier firmware but I can't seem to connect to it using host software.

Is there a way of confirming the Atmel1284 is alive? Using the serial monitor maybe?

It maybe that I'm just a bit thick, if so it's OK to let me know!

Thanks in advance.

/triggernom.
