cartisian robot & simple rubber tubes holding stepper to drive.

Hi if you look at the mill cnc on instructables their are less parts. The stepper is hooked by a tube to the steel rod.

Now this proably is not as stable or strong...
But is simpler.

Why did they add this stuff?
Would this make this a better mill than that?
