Which extruder + possible to replace with new

Hey,

I've got a printer from school which has several problems that I'm solving.
I was busy disassembling the extruder to clean it and found out the white PEEK insulator is a bit crooked. The wired part is a bit warped from the heat I think.
Now I was thinking to just renew the whole extruder because I think this one is kind of old.

Now my questions are:
1) Which extruder is the one I have? The J-head MKI?
2) Is it possible to just replace this one with a modern one like the J-Head MK V-BV?

Here are pictures from the extruder:

Thanks :-)

Hello,

That is not a J-head. It is the old "Geared Extruder Nozzle".

I don't know what you can replace it with. As far as J-Heads are concerned, only MakerFarm supplies a J-Head Mk IV-B made to the proper specifications of a J-Head. Almost all other J-Heads on the market are cheap chinese knock-offs that are not made to the proper specifications, have no support, and are of questionable quality.

The J-Head Mk V-BV is no longer available at [www.hotends.com]. The market prefers chinese as it is cheaper.

Best Regards,

Brian
