Bowden Extruder with push-fit Pneumatic connectors

I hand-made a prototype Bowden extruder for 1.75mm and 3mm Filament using Pneumatic push-fit connectors if anyone's interested -

I was also tired of messing about with springs on top of the idler block, so my design fits them inside the extruder body -

And it's belt driven smiling bouncing smiley

More photos and build on my blog

Cheers,

Rich.

Nifty! The idea had occurred to me as well (I sell a lot of push-to-connect fittings and Nylon tubing for paintball guns), but I wondered about the stiffness for such an application - I can easily imagine the teflon tubing stretching a bit when the filament is driven through (though adding a bit of rollback in software may alleviate this).

Hi and thanks.

The tube is quite hard, much more like nylon than pure white PTFE, and as I'm using 1.75mm filament hopefully there will be less pressure on the tube so I don't expect it to stretch. The fittings grip it very well and allow rotation so could be a good solution.

I'm going to try it out with software this week so I'll report back.
