What is a good 3D rendering tool?

I'm currently a Computer Science student in college, looking to learn some graphic design on the side for video game purposes. What is a good (free would be nice) tool that will let me create simple 3D models and export them in different formats?

Is there a good website with tutorials for such a program?

For example, if I wanted to create extra units for a game like Supreme Commander.

I would suggest Blender especially seeing as it has a built in game engine, and is completely free (btw "rendering tool" would refer to something like v-ray or luxrender, what you want is a 3D computer graphics program ":]). And to answer your second question, yes it's called youtube :-p
