Generating a mould from stl file of the 3D drawing

Hi,

I am new to the forum and wanted to know how to make a mould from a 3D drawing Hope someone could suggest.

Suppose I have a 3D drawing in .stl format (for eg. a cylinder) and I wanted to make the generate the design of its mould (ie the outer structure through which I could manufacture the cylinder). Is there any way to do so. Are there any tools to do so pls.

Thanks,

Arvind Gupta.

A boolean operation can do the trick, but the main difficulty in creating molds is how you have to structure it to make it work. Simple convex shapes often don't require more than two parts, but more complex shapes can become very difficult quickly.

A web search for "mold design software" may be helpful

Whether or not to provide 3D is based on the complexity of the shape and structure of the product, if the product structure is complicated and the 2D engineering drawing cannot be clearly expressed, the customer is required to provide 3D, so that the quotation of injection mould can more accurately settle the processing cost and give a more reasonable quotation.
