Rendering an imported object in OpenScad
January 19, 2013 08:48AM
Hi all,

I seem not to be able to modify other people's .STL files in OpenScad

When I import ( or stl-import, no differences) an STL file and I add some structures in which I diffence some text, the compile [F5] will show as expected, however,
The rendering [F6] will remove the imported object, leaving only my added code.

And as expected afterwards, the new exported STL also lacks the imported object :-(

As said, no matter which import statement I use.

Any clue's

Advice appreciated

Thomas

This happens when the stl you're trying to import is broken in some way. Run it through cloud.netfabb.com and it'll work. Openscad is really fussy when it comes to importing stls.

Great advice!!

Afterer the netfabb fix, I could merge and render the new object.
Many thanks

Thomas
