Problem with converting models

Hi peeps,

First off: Great to meet ya, I'm Imhotep, a 3d printer fan from Holland. Some hobbies: 3d modeling, music production, music playing. I started building and using my first 3d printer, the Prusa i3, a few months ago. Prints keep getting better and better.

I just finished modeling an instrument part in Maya but I can't get it to print well. When I import my model in slicer, it looks kinda like a mozaic. When I export it and try to print it, my prusa stops after 11 seconds..

The problem seems to be in solidifying the object.. It would be great if anyone has some tips to export a model from Maya to slicer successfully. Or should I use a totally different program to model for 3d prints?

Thanks alot c:

cheers,
VDX

... you have first to triangulate all surface tiles, as common STL parser can't handle meshes with more than 3 points per node.

And the part has to be 'manifold' or 'watertight' ...
