Printing on another print?

Printing on another print?
March 16, 2014 04:31PM
Hello, I have found this phone cover and I am interested, if it is possible to print one of these with prusa i3? I think, the way to do it is to print a flat cover, turn it upside down, and print the skull on it. Any other ideas?

... or print both separate and glue it together -- with ABS this glue can be some ABS solved in Acetone, so the connection is same material ... then 'smooth' the complete surface with Acetone-vapour ...

... there are some solvents for PLA too, but much more harmfull/toxic than Acetone ... there were some related threads, but didn't find them again ...

THF is a PLA solvent that's only about as toxic as Acetone.

I used DUCO Cement and it worked fine!

I think, on the original question, it can be done.

1) make a note of the layers of the first print
2) print it with a skirt
3) turn the object and re-align within the skirt
4) slice object #2 without skirt
5) change start Gcode NOT to home printer
6) home only x and y manual ( leave z as after first print, or if that print homed some place, home z manual and advance # layers)
7) start 2nd object

Watch and keep power button close :-)

I just finished some work on my cnc machine with pla printed parts, and found that the acrylic solvent Weldon 4 is excellent for gluing pla.
