hi,
I saw many of Z axis 1 motor with belt. But I have never seen with bewel gear so why not?

Well, they are hard to get aligned without backlash and they waste more energy than belt or motor connected straight to leadscrew.

Still seems better than running two motors though. I say try it and tell us how it works out!
