Battery powered 4-5 port Network switch

it's not so much a reprap design, other than the enclosure/battery compartment. perhaps just take a 5 port network switch and hack in a battery pack. Something like a USB hub, but for Ethernet.


Sometimes when doing network troubleshooting, you are just one port short when you want to plug in something temporarily. small switches are fine, but then you also have to carry around the power brick. I can't seem to find ANY battery powered switches.

As long as the switch takes a reasonable voltage (less than ~12V), it would be easy to take a small switch and attach a battery pack to it.

exactly. here's a good place to start. don't know the cost though.

This one is usb powered, which is pretty great, but it costs $30!

similar, wall-wart powered switches cost around $10. reasonable, and we just need to rip out the circuit board and print our own enclosure with a battery compartment.
