Mendel Machined Extruder Parts Kit (Extruder Version 2.0)
November 03, 2009 02:13PM
Hello,

If there is enough interest, I am willing to make a parts kit for the version 2.0 of the thermoplastic extruder. [http]

I will price the parts as follows:

$4.90 PTFE insulator
$6.00 Brass barrel/nozzle combination with a 0.5mm orifice

$1.50 shipping/handling to anywhere in the Continental US or Canada
$5.00 shipping/handling to other international locations

The total cost of a kit, with shipping in the US, is $12.40.

Regards,

Brian

I would definitely be interested in a kit like this. MakerBot Industries seems to have a set of parts of their own (I don't know if they work without modifications) which are priced a little higher, so this seems like a good deal.

Like many others, I've also expressed interest in the rest of the plastic parts for the kit which may or may not include the parts for the extruder (depending on where/who I end up getting one from). Something for everyone to keep in mind, I guess, as we all go looking to bring all the pieces together.
Ditto
I'm in...

Hello,

I believe I have enough interest for 9 kits.

If there is one more person, who expresses interest in a parts kit, I will make a batch of 15 parts kits.

After those 15 kits are gone, I will only make more if there is enough interest to make another batch of kits.

Brian

I'm very interested in building a mendel.

Could you email me at trait13@hotmail.com for more details?

Thanks in advance,
Aaron

I'd be interested in buying a plastruder like makerbot's. Since they have decided to take their time on making any available.

Have you done the research you were going to do? What's the verdict?

Someone besides makerbot has got to start making some of these!

I'd buy one from you or them if they were available.

I would also be interested in buying the insulator, nozzle and any plastic extruder parts that you make.
You can contact me at garrygilligan@yahoo.com for arrangements. Thank you
I'll buy two kits, shipped to St. Paul, MN.

Please contact me at petebergstrom at gmail dot com to arrange payment and shipping address.

Thanks,
Pete

Hello,

I am now planning to make a batch of 25 kits.

Is there a preference for PEEK over PTFE? If so, I can make the kits out of PEEK, however, the price of a kit will be $18.50 with PEEK.

I will be ordering materials on Thursday.

Regards,

Brian
PTFE is fine as far as I'm concerned.

Best,
Pete

Hello,

This morning, I have ordered enough material for 25 kits.

Regards,

Brian
Hi Brian. Are all 25 spoken for? If not, can you put me down for 1 kit? Thanks, Dan

Hello,

I'll put you down.

Regards,

Brian
Thanks Brian. My email is daniel dot k dot devine at gmail dot com

I'm going to be building my first mendel so can you clarify what parts you're able to supply and what the total cost is? I'll add $10 for shipping to NJ. Payment in advance is not a problem so let me know where to send the paypal or check. Are you able to share an approximate ETA for delivery?

I'm looking to order the remaining parts from makerbot / mouser/ digikey based on who has them in stock. I assume others are doing the same using the parts list posted for the mendel?

As a side note, can anyone clarify (or refer me to a link) the differences between a makerbot cupcake cnc and a mendel cnc? It looks like they can both produce the same 3d output but I could be wrong. It seems like the mendel is cheaper to build (perhaps due to some manual effort) but I still don't know what my total cost will be because I haven't ordered any of the electronics yet.

Pardon my newbie questions, I've had an interest in the cnc technology for a while and was finally inspired to act on it after reading this article in the Wall St. Journal yesterday:

Thanks,
Dan
How many spots are left?

I would like to order a set too. Do you except paypal?

Hi,

I've only just spotted this thread. I've been trying (and failing) to make brass heater barrels / nozzles for ages but lack the proper tools to do it. If I'm not too late I would love to get two (or one if you don't have enough) to the UK. I have already made my own insulators.

Hello,

I am planning on making some of the nozzles this evening. I'll start contacting people in the order that they requested parts once I have some of them finished.

Thus far, it appears that 18 kits are spoken for. I should be able to make at least 25 barrel/nozzles with the stock that I have available.

Regards,

Brian
Brian,

If you have another kit that isn't spoken for, I'd like to purchase one. Shipping to Atlanta, GA. E-mail is my username @ my username . me

Thanks!

Hello,

I just e-mailed you the payment instructions. The parts supplied are 2 of the 3 parts listed under the heading "Non-rapid-prototyped" mechanical parts on this page: [reprap.org]

The parts are the "thermal barrier" and the "heated brass barrel." I did not make the copper jacket as that can be made quite easily with a hacksaw and a file.

Regards,

Brian

Hello,

I have just e-mailed or PM'd everyone who has expressed interest in purchasing these kits. Assuming that everyone who expressed interest purchases a kit, there are now only 4 left.

Regards,

Brian

Nine parts kits, for everyone who paid me yesterday, have been mailed. I have 10 more parts kits left.

Five more parts kits may be available as I have not heard from the person who requested them in a while.

If there are available part kits left count me in for wanting to purchase one. You'd be shipping to Michigan, no place crazy. PM me or email me, alkalinedog at hotmail dot com. I want to get the ball rolling on my reprap ASAP so i'll respond very quick.
