The T5 pulley looks exactly like some I bought from Hong Kong on eBay. They don't have the correct tooth profile and give loads of backlash. AFAIK T5 pulleys are not available with 8 teeth because the spec for the belts specifies 10 as the minimum.

Have you tested them with some T5 belt?

Same here, looks like the cheap pulleys I bought on ebay a while ago
Except mine are working fine, no backlash - with a minor drawback, the grub screw is unusable due to the really tiny thickness of the sheet it is threaded in, I had to glue the pulley instead

Most of my technical comments should be correct, but is THIS one ?
Anyway, as a rule of thumb, always double check what people write.

I was on vacation so I reply a bit late

@Nophead:These are inspired by the chinese ones indeed. I have been using them for a year now and am pretty happy about it. They don't cause backlash for me. Also it's the same size as a standard reprap pulley.

@DeuxVis: I have drilled small m3 hole in my motor shaft. That fixed the pulley perfectly for me

I have uploaded a vid at [www.youtube.com] to show the pulley in action. Also two pictures are attached. The timing belt fits perfectly I think. How would this cause any backlash?

The ones I bought on eBay from Hong Kong have teeth that are too thin, you see the gap here and that is how much backlash they have.

Those are pretty different from the ones i have got. These are much smoother i think.

Yes they look better quality but it still looks like the teeth are smaller than the gaps in the belt. It is hard to see in your photo because the belt is black and in shadow but there seems to be a gap between the pulley tooth and the belt. Are they genuine T5 pulleys or are they intended for another type of belt? It seems odd anybody would make them with 8 teeth as it violates the T5 belt spec.

so your own pulley design [www.thingiverse.com] does that too right winking smiley They are based on the dimensions of the pulleys

This is what the printed ones look like: printed with a 0.35 nozzle and 0.3mm layers.

There is no gap at the root of the tooth but they won't exactly match the STL because of the way the plastic rounds off corners. How they come out depends on the nozzle size, etc. With a 0.5 nozzle the valleys become to narrow.

Have you had a custom extrusion die made from the STL then?

I didn't design the tooth profile of the one on Thingiverse. I made if from the original Mendel STL. I have no idea if it is the ideal shape or was compensated to allow for the distortion of printing. IIRC I did ask Bath how they were made at the time but the answer was not forthcoming.

The pulleys are being produced based on the dimensions of the STL yes. The pitch between the teeth is a small bit larger (and i mean a real small bit) then the timingbelt, but this will not cause backlash as the timing belt can't move between teeth. So if the pulley moves a degree, the timingbelt will too.
