Machined Extruder Parts Kit

Hello,

After a few months of careful consideration, I have decided to suspend my hobby of machining parts. This is even though I get a great sense of satisfaction making these parts for the RepRap community. Since this is a hobby, I do not have to worry about profit, cash-flow, etc., so that really isn't the issue. Without revealing too much, my current employment situation has forced me to realize that I need to spend some time pursuing other options.

Since I have had an idea for an innovative piece of software in my head, for some time, I am going to take a break to pursue this avenue of interest.

This does not mean that I am going to disappear entirely. If anyone requires support, for parts that I have sold them, I will be here. Also, if anybody would like a quantity of parts produced at a reasonable price, please feel free to contact me. Time permitting, I may be able to help.

I may also, at my discretion, make parts for sale on E-bay from time to time.

At some point I plan on returning.

Thank you for all your support.

Regards,

Brian

Plenty! spinning smiley sticking its tongue out Thus far, I've sold or traded 19 kits and some miscellaneous parts. But, after the initial rush, things slowed down considerably. smoking smiley

For some parts, I have made a second batch. I'll soon have to make the second batch of nozzles.

Brian

Hello,

A question came up as to whether this offer is still valid. This offer is valid and will be for some time.

I still have lots of parts and I am making more as I need them. For example, because I was almost out of nozzles I ran off 30 of them today.

(Don't be too critical about the placement of the "players" as I don't know much about football. grinning smiley )

My next run of parts will be 1/2 bearings.

I've been looking at the Ponoko laser cut extruder package, it seems like these parts would, for the most part, work with that set up. Can someone with a little more knowledge confirm that?

I'm in the process of building one now with Brian's part. I should have a firm answer for you by the weekend, but for now, I can say that (just holding it together) the heater element, thermal break, and nozzle appear to work. The extruder screw and bearings will not. The Ponoko extruder relies on an m8 stud for driving, the m5(?) that Brian supplies will be too sloppy. Likewise, Ponoko uses skate bearings instead of the static bearing in the Mark II.

When I get farther along, I'll let you know (if someone doesn't beat me to it).

Hello,

It looks like the PTFE, heater barrel, and nozzle are the compatible. The only difference, that I noticed, is that the Ponoko assembly instructions show and acorn nut nozzle where I supply a machined nozzle. Either nozzle should work fine.

I'd like to buy a machined parts kit, and if you're willing to print them, the printed parts for a Darwin. I'm willing to pay extra for shipping and materials if you do print the parts for me.

Hello,

I have the machined parts; but, I don't have a working Reprap to make the printed parts with. I am sending you the payment information via private message.

Could you show a picture of a completed one?

Hey Brian,

I have been searching, but unable to find, the complete design to assemble with your parts. Can you provide a link? Now that I am close to wrapping up the structure, I can work on extruder.

Thanks,
Jay

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply as I don't login here much anymore.

The instructions are mostly on this page:

[dev.www.reprap.org]

However, the parts kit uses the direct drive system as explained on the following page:

would it be possible to get just a nozzle but with 10-32 threads, or even just a #21 hole and I could tap it, I would buy a few if you could do this.

Hello,

I could make a custom nozzle, however, it would cost extra as it would be a "one-off" part.

However, if you would like several, the cost per part would come down significantly as most of the time making parts is consumed setting up the machine.

How many are you interested in?

Brian

I may get back in touch with you about it, I just bought a lathe, so I will give it a try myself. If I am unsuccessful I will get in touch with you.

Sounds good. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Also, the forum at [www.homeshopmachinist.net] can be a great help.

I know this is an old thread.

I only recently discovered the Reprap and have started collecting parts. I do not have any machining equipment, nor the skills to use them.

Are you still building the extruder kits?

I recently bought a Makerbot off of Craigslist with a MK4 extruder that broke one of its laser cut plates because of a blockage... so now I need to replace the plates AND the hot end... would your parts work with a Makerbot MK4?

Hello,

While I really haven't been making extruder kits, for about 2 months (I am busy working on a software project), I did just run off a batch of the "Geared Extruder Nozzle" kits for somebody...as well as some extras as I had the machines setup. (http://reprap.org/wiki/Geared_extruder_nozzle) I don't know how well they would match up with the MK4. If there is room for the 2 threaded rods, it would probably work.

The kits I made have the PTFE thermal barrier, nozzle, heater block (made out of aluminum instead of brass) with resistor, and PEEK block. I didn't include the threaded rods as that is an easy-to-find item. Larger threaded rods could be used by drilling out the PEEK block.

I'll sell them for $45.00 each plus $1.50 for domestic shipping or $6.50 for international shipping.

Brian

Hi Brian,

If you have any of the geared extruder parts left, would it be possible to get a ptfe thermal barrier and a nozzle drilled out to 0.5mm?

Thanks,

Kev

Hello,

Sorry about the late reply as I don't check this board every day.

I still have some parts left and the material to make many more.

I am sending a PM.

Regards,

Brian

Does anyone know if anyone sells an assemble extruder that you can just hook it up with ur stepper motor and get it to work. I'm working on a project which requires me to transform a smithy CNC machine to a 3D printer and just don't have enough time to purchase and assemble the extruder. Any response is highly appreciated. Thanks
