Cheap ABS pellets in Germany

Hello,
I just found a very cheap distributor for ABS plastics pellets in many colors.
I wrote them a mail and got 10kg yellow ABS pellets for 20€+porto.
Maybe they will send in other countries too.

Thanks for the tip! That would leave it at under $2USD/pound with shipping, most likely...low enough it might be worth figuring out and building an extrusion machine to make my own filament. Thanks much!

WOW! that´s cheap.
How we "only" need either a pellet/abs-dust -extruder or a working recycler that makes filament.

You know this has gotten me thinking. There are designs out there for pellet extruders, but they all seem a bit big for the Mendel. But what if we two staged it? What if someone build a pellet extruder that produced the right sized filament to feed into a roller extruder.

I would think that would be a slick way to produce your own filament, in 'reel' time cool smiley

I was thinking about a feeder (vibrating hopper) that fed standardized-width pellets via a silicone tube to a generic extruder. It's a silly idea, but might work.

The pellets would never align with the tube and block before entering it.

That is much more complicated then you think.
* air bubbles in the infeed of this extruder
* cooling the filament without getting it wet (ABS soaks water and changes it´s melting point)
* controlling the thickness accurately enough

See the giant recycler-thread for details.

What about pla pellets? Is that possible as it has a lower melting point?

I might buy some for experiments.

i have a few kg of Ingeo 4043D PLA pellets for sale at £15 per kg. + postage if anyone is interested.

Keith
is their a way to melt the pellets and then have in come straight out of the hotend so not actually turning it into filament just strainght into the hot end.
