QuoteSebastienBailard Hey folks! We've renamed the "FiveD on Arduino" Firmware to "Teacup" Firmware to distinguish it from "FiveD". To my understanding the FiveD firmware was renamed when written for RAMPS so I just included Teacup. I'm only including the most popular options as they are most supported by the community, hence no Java host. Anyone want to write a brief description of .SCAD fiby nigel_mck - General
I've been part of the RepRap community for some months now and love the support and advice that happens every day on this forum. I feel so grateful for the support this forum has given me and would like to find a way to give back to the community and further the RepRap movement in my own way. I see many who are interested or in the process of building a RepRap ask about what software they shouldby nigel_mck - General
Have you checked which serial port your trying to connect to the Arduino with? On OSX mine defaults to "/dev/tty.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync" when in order to properly connect (on OSX) it should be "/dev/cu.usbserial-A900F88L"by nigel_mck - RAMPS Electronics
You will need to download a firmware such as sprinter or Marlin and upload it to the Arduino via the Arduino IDE . When you open whichever firmware you choose within the Arduino interface, go to the tab that says "configuration.h" you'll find feedrates, travel rates and everything else within the configuration.h file. Look up calibration on the RepRap Wiki and follow the directions there, they wiby nigel_mck - Reprappers
Great tip! As far as the wades gear goes, I had the same problem, from my understanding there is a metric and empirial version of the wades gear to fit the proper metric or empirial bolt. You may have ended up with the wrong combination.by nigel_mck - General Mendel Topics
Here's how I set up my heated bed, I tried to create clear documentation: Reprap Blogby nigel_mck - General Mendel Topics
The motors are being "held" in position by your firmware, this is quite normal. Most likely your power supply can't keep up with the current draw. Do you have a heated bed (They can pull a lot of current)? What is the rating on the 12V rail of your power supply (if its a PC power supply)?by nigel_mck - RepRap Host
I've been constantly checking this post for updates. You've got me really curious with all these pictures of excellent high end parts AND at the same time stating your going to have really competitive pricing.... I will be very impressed if you guys pull off both claims. Best of luck!by nigel_mck - General
Great start! I would suggest making categories for the general designs of printers, most of the companies listed are either making prusa, huxley or mendel printers. Allow users to rate general printer designs and then within each general design list all the companies that fit under that heading. Looking at your website right now, it would lead a new impressionable user to believe that 3D printeby nigel_mck - General
Hi all, I just got my printer running this last week and have been getting amazing results! But I have found one problem I can't seem to get around in Pronterface. I was attempted to print a tray of prusa parts but had a problem around the border of the print. As you can see in the screen shot, the tray overlaps what pronterface thinks is my printers border. In reality, the red dot on the image iby nigel_mck - RepRap Host
I started with ABS and found it extremely easy to get going, my first print was pretty decent and the quality quickly improved after that. I have found that there is barely any smell with the current batch of ABS I've been using. I switched over to PLA just today and found it extremely finicky as for as print quality. Any kind of temperature change completely changes the print quality.by nigel_mck - General
I've been using ABS plastic from mixshop, they're based in Toronto so you can do local pickup and waive the shipping, so far the ABS from them has been consistently 2.94mm which is pretty decent.by nigel_mck - Canada, Toronto RepRap User Group

Ya I ended up just using a picture frame glass since it fit almost perfectly without having to be cut, I put kapton tape on it and its been printing beautifily all day. I'm very interested in trying plain glass and PLA, can someone tell me what the procedure is for switching between ABS and PLA? I remember reading something about washing out the hot end with acetone, but I'm not quite sure how toby nigel_mck - General
Quick question, does the glass pane that covers the PCB heated bed need to be heat treated? Like Pyrex? Or can I just use any old peice of glass. I ask this becuase I have an old scanner bed piece of glass that will work perfectly, but I'm not sure what will happen when I heat it up. Thanks!by nigel_mck - General
I am also a young person looking to create a business using a reprap as a prototyping platform, so I can relate to what you are asking for. But taking a dream and making it into reality especially in our competative world is extremely difficult. Asking for 10,000 dolars of people's hard earned money without having a more detailed outline of what your going to do with that money would be a startby nigel_mck - General

So I here's my problem guys: I was soldering my RAMPS 1.4 board and accidentally butchered the Z axis part of the circuit. Basically I soldered the wrong header and had to take it out, lifting one of the traces right off the PCB in the process. Short answer the Z axis doesn't work. Now there are spots for two stepper drivers, but I only need the one. Is there a way for me to remap the pins in sprby nigel_mck - RAMPS Electronics
Hi all, I have most of the parts printed for my Prusa but can't get the last few parts printed. What I need: Wades extruder parts X-Carriage for LM8UU linear bushings (2X) Pulley (2X) Z Coupling (4X) Y bushing (link) PM me if you can help me out and how much it will cost. Thanks! Hey guys, I'm currently about half way through the arduous process of building a Prusa Mendel. I have been having a blast and am learning every step of the way. I have been documenting my build in a blog at: http://arduinoblog11.blogspot.com/ I am trying to post about things that I haven't seen written up in other blogs to keep it interesting. Take a look and follow me if you want! Nigelby nigel_mck - Reprappers

Hello all, I am a grade twelve student building a Prusa as my Gr. 12 project. I already have the RAMPS board assembled (SMT soldering is surprisingly a lot easier than I thought!) and have ordered the rest of the vitamins from Mixshop. Hacklab.to has generously let me use their makerbot to print out the parts for my printer, so I'm a little past half way through printing out the parts. Hello all, I am currently working on a Prusa Mendel and am curious about the specifications of the pulley. Firstly I am using these belts for my build: http://mixshop.com/index I have heard that to increase print accuracy it is recommend that one use plastic or metal pulleys rather than printed ones. What are the specifications I should be looking for? And if anyone has a source for them in Canaby nigel_mck - Reprappers
I'm also curious about Mixshop, I live in the Greater Toronto Area, so I could pick up locally. Anyone?by nigel_mck - General
Hey, Has anyone tried using http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10507 as a stepper driver for a reprap? It seems to fit all the specifications: 2 amps, bipolar, 1/16th microstepping, plus the price is pretty good too.by nigel_mck - General
Awesome introduction! Really clarifies and distills the a lot of the crucial information that's all over the forums! Great work! The one comment I have: The picture is stretched vertically, not a big deal, just pointing it out.by nigel_mck - General
