Comment from Polygonhel "Sounds like you need to turn down the gain on the stepper drivers very slightly." I have had a similar problem that suggested I turn dow the gain on steppers. I have no idea as how to do this. I know there is an adjuster on the pololu board, but don't recognize it? Any suggestions or direction to point me to? Thanks, Bobby Bob hewson - General
Ryan, Thanks, that does look like a logical out of the way place. Too bad tips like this are omitted from the instructions. Bobby Bob hewson - General
Thanks Ryan, I saw that comment on electrinics somewhere else too, but of course, not until I had completed mine. Moving will require a lot of rewiring to physically accomodate a move. Where have you located your elecrtonics?by Bob hewson - General
I have been doing the callibration of my Prusa/Mendel printer but seem to have everything screwed up. For starters, which is the "front". I believe the front is the closest in the picture attached. I have the micro switch located for "Y" closest to the camera (front left) and actuates when the Heated bed moves to its limit towards the front. The "X" microswitch is located on the right hand siby Bob hewson - General

The thermistor for my heated bed is the pigtail type. Its apparent use is to monitor the glass plate temperature. My question is how do you mount the thermister to the red heated board? I used muffler cement for the resistors and thermistors in my extruder hot end. I would expect this is OK on heated bed too, and that the glass part should be flush with the surface. OK, I'm a rookie at electronic solderin, but soldered my Pololu boards onto connectors and mounted on the Ramps board. I didn't clean any flux off the driver chips. What, where and how do I do this? I am still wiring stuff so have not powered anything up - yet. Sometimes writing it out and asking the question twigs some other avenues to explore. I finally found the problem in that my Java program was likely at fault so uninstalled it. I retried replicatorG and it accepted everything and operates now. I still have a problem though with downloading stl files, even after installing new java for Vista. I must be skirting the file download problem becaby Bob hewson - General
I dowloaded a new version of ReplicatoG 34 in the hope of resolving my problem in downloading stl files. I downloaded the file OK, downloaded a new copy of Python too and proceeded to install both. Both install went as planned. When I tried to run replicatorG I got this error: "application was configured to use a bundled java runtime environment but the runtime is missing or corupted" I triedby Bob hewson - General
I tried changing file association and had STL file default to Sketchup8. There were several other choices too: ReplicatorG, 123D, Firefox and Crypto Shell Extension by Microsoft. I played around and found the Crypto Shell item seemd to work. I also found a refernce to STL import plugins and found and installed one to sketchup. I have now managed to download a number of files, so may haveby Bob hewson - General
Am unable to download anything from Thingiverse. Bobby Bob hewson - General
I posted this to the Thingiverse forum with no solutions offered, perhaps someone here can help. When I try to download a stl file no download occurs and I get this error "Could not find the main class: replicator.app.base. Program will exit." I am using Firefox as my browser. Any suggestions on what the problem is and how to rectify it? Thanks, Bobby Bob hewson - General
Thanks, I will check the cement for conductivity and if it isn't will get some silicone. I am beginning to see that I am learnig things quickly like soldering leads on Plolu cards. My last soldering was with a weller solder gun, its tips would cover about 3 or 4 of the solder pins. So, a new soldering iron with a tiny pointed tip and some practice. Seemed to do the job, no bridged connectionsby Bob hewson - General
I'm ready to install my heated build plate and printhead. I've seen suggestions to fasten resistor in printhead with muffler cement. Should I should also insulate the leads since I'm guessing the muffler cement may be conductive? Same with the thermister in the printhead i.e. insulate leads? The heated build plate also uses a thermistor, bond it in place too with muffler cement and insulate lby Bob hewson - General
Did anyone have relatively "instant" success with kits? I am a beginner and an "old timer" who became facinated by 3D printing a couple of years ago. I recently decided to make the plunge and opted for a full kit to build a PrusaMendel. I have received my hardware/electronics/extruder kit and am awaiting my plastic parts to begin construction/assembly. To prepare I have been reading a lot ofby Bob hewson - General
I have a tool table to construct my Prusa Mendel on, but I feel the table top is too small. Can anyone tell me the overall footprint of the Prusa Mendel printer including the power supply so I can cut a piece of baltic birch as a new table top whic will be big enough. Thanks, Bobby Bob hewson - General
Thanks, that answered a lot of questions. Still outstanding is whether any other plasics are being used... Seems that PLA is the best to start with while ABS is the one for projects requiring more strength, and filament 1.75 is the "current standard". Bobby Bob hewson - General
When I first started looking into personal 3D printing it seems everyone was using ABS, now PLA seems more prevalent. 3mm filament was the standard and now 1.75mm seems to be the current favourite. Are there othe materials to concider? Would someone please give the pros and cons of both plastics and filaments as relates to RepRap machines such as the PRUSA/Mendel.
