I tried adding a fan to my Longboat Prusa. It was an old CPU fan I had, and I mounted it (with tape) on the carriage pointing at the extruder tip. It was permanently powered on. This produced a great improvement in the printing of overhangs and pointy bits, but the resulting objects were unusably fragile. Presumably it was setting the PLA before it was thoroughly stuck to the previous layer.by ebcdic - General

Try swapping the motor connections around (e.g. plug the y motor into the z socket on the electronics) and see which works. Moving in one direction usually means you don't have an endstop switch (correctly) attached.by ebcdic - General

In general, should the zero point on the X axis be the bed itself, or the position at which the first layer is printed? Also, fixing the Z end switch at just the right position is a little unreliable. Has anyone designed some kind of adjustment mechanism?by ebcdic - General

I printed this, which took about an hour: I'm hoping that now I have the PEEK block installed correctly there will be much less stress on the insulator.by ebcdic - General
I tried Mkouri's suggestion of cutting down the old insulator, using a cordless drill and part of an old "Microplane" grater to turn the PTFE, and to my surprise it works, though I'm not sure how long it will last. The shorter insulator makes assembling the hot end even more tedious, as the screws holding the PEEK block prevent you screwing the heating block on after assembly (obviously some shoby ebcdic - General
I've had the same problem with my Longboat Prusa. After printing about a dozen objects with varying degrees of success, the extruder motor started skipping, and when I disassembled the hot end I found that the threaded part of the PTFE insulator had broken off. I'll contact the RepRapKit Store for a replacement, but I haven't had much luck with previous email to them. Is the part for "Hotend Vby ebcdic - General
I've successfully built one of their kits. However, don't expect much in the way of support from them. One of the reasons I chose them was that they appeared to have detailed instructions for the kit. The instructions were "in progress" at the time, and progressed for a while, but then stopped. They never finished them, and are now selling a slightly different kit. Fortunately the instructioby ebcdic - United Kingdom RepRap User Group

I'm (still) building a Longboat Prusa Mendel from the RepRap Kit Store, and I'm now about to build the firmware. I assume that the normal axis arrangement is that +X moves the extruder to the right, +Z moves it up, and +Y moves the printbed towards you, so that relative to the printbed the extruder moves away from you. Is that right? With the Y motor facing me, and using the supplied firmware,by ebcdic - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Thanks for your reply. Can you clarify a few things? The unswitched +12V - is it reasonable to take this from one of the IDE disk connectors on the power supply? When you say "pulldown to source", does this mean connect gate and source with the supplied 1M resistor? If the source and the resistors are connected direct to the power supply, there will only be one wire from the electronics? I'veby ebcdic - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
I'm building a Longboat Prusa Mendel from the RepRap Kit Store. Unfortunately their instructions are incomplete, and have not been updated for over a month. Also, they now seem to be selling a slightly different version so I fear they may never provide complete instructions. Brian's build blog has also not been updated for weeks. So, has anyone here built one successfully? I'm at the point oby ebcdic - United Kingdom RepRap User Group

Some kits were sent out without the thermistor and kapton tape, but that was just a temporary supply problem, and mine have now arrived. Has anyone heard anything from the RepRap Kit Store recently? I ordered a kit on the 28th of December, and have heard nothing since. The kits were due to dispatch on 30th January, so I sent an enquiry using their contact page last Thursday, but haven't had any reply. Their news page is still urging people to beat the price increase on 1st January...by ebcdic - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
