What price do you have in mind?by Karl_Williams - For Sale
Reprap is great for prototyping and creating robotics projects. This is the kind of technology that I dreamed about having access to years ago. Here is a robot wrist and gripper that I designed in Solidworks and printed on a Mendel. I'm working on the rest of the arm right now.by Karl_Williams - General
After a few months of getting very nice prints, my mendel has developed the same problem. Will replacing the captive nuts solve this problem? It seems that the nuts are over constrained in the mendel design. Is there a way to let the z-axis nuts move slightly in the holder since it is the smooth rod that holds the axis in place?by Karl_Williams - General
I gave up on the Canadian filament suppliers (mixshop and A2A) even though I can get it the next day because the filament that comes from China is not very good. I order from Ultimachine now because the product is superior. It would be nice if Ultimachine had a shop set up in Canada.by Karl_Williams - General
I have been getting great results with the MakerGear hot end. They answer emails promptly and will help with any problems. http://www.makergear.com/products/operators-packby Karl_Williams - General
Did anyone see it running at Maker Faire?by Karl_Williams - General
I bought a fully assembled Glider and it might as well have been the kit since all the axis needed to be taken apart, aligned and calibrated. I was taking the extruder apart and reassembling it at least twice a week until the hotend failed for good. I replaced it with a MakerGear hotend and haven't had any problems since. Mine came with a heated bed powered with a 12V laptop power supply that couby Karl_Williams - General
It would be cool if we can get this elasto plastic in roll of filament. Does anyone know if this is available? http://www.shapeways.com/blog/archives/1375-Introducing-3D-Printed-Black-Elasto-Plastic-I-Cant-Believe-Its-Not-Rubber.htmlby Karl_Williams - General
It would be nice if the pulse width time could be set in the configuration.h file. I have an extra CNC controller that I am thinking about using for a 3D printer I'm building right now. I had a similar problem with a board I bought on Ebay that came from China. The problem with that board was that the opto couplers were too slow and made the square wave look like a triangle wave so at faster speeby Karl_Williams - General
The Kickstarter project sure sold out fast! Any chance that you would consider increasing the number of backers?by Karl_Williams - General
I finally had some time to tune the MakerGear hotend and I'm getting nice consistent prints now. I had to add a bigger cooling fan to keep the filament feed end of the hotend cool. I'm using a wades extruder on what I think is the original Mendel X carriage and there isn't a lot of room for air flow so the bigger fan was necessary. The blobbing I was seeing during retraction is gone now that I haby Karl_Williams - General
Hey aplavins, is there a Toronto 3D printing meetup once in a while? I'm interested in coming if there is.by Karl_Williams - General
Are you still going through with the Kickstarter campaign? The preview link is 404 now. It looks like a nice portable printer.by Karl_Williams - General
I use Meshcam to generate gcode for my milling machine. It's not free but it does work well. Here's a blog about my experiment of adding a 4th axis to my Taig and cutting a 3D object: Milling 3D objectsby Karl_Williams - Skeinforge
There is a guy in Toronto with a shop on Spadina who sells a number of robotics related items produced from NC files downloaded from Thingiverse. I always thought that violated the licenses.by Karl_Williams - General
Probably using a common ground on the led and opto.by Karl_Williams - General
I was getting the same thing on my prints until I increased the speed of the z-axis.by Karl_Williams - General
I put that into google translate, german to english, mist = manure. LOLby Karl_Williams - General
I noticed that the guys at Mixshop.com have a new 3D printer and extruder named Mist. Not sure if this one is open source or not. Mist 3D printer Print Photosby Karl_Williams - General
I bought a spool of blue PLA from them on Ebay. It prints very well. 1-inch blue PLA cubeby Karl_Williams - General
Thanks for the link to the assembly instructions. The ptfe tube in my hotend is only 26.57 mm long - 10.5 mm shorter than it should be. So that explains why it eventually failed. It looks like it may have shrunk a bit and deformed on the end from the heat. I was getting very nice prints from that hotend until it failed. So I probably just need to get some new ptfe tube and cut it to the proper leby Karl_Williams - General
I had the same problem with the botmill hot end. It could be the steps per mm setting in your firmware is wrong. Botmill never answered my email about which firmware they had installed or what settings they used. I installed marlin firmware and then calibrated it myself using this as a guide: I always had to print PLA at 210 degrees with the hot end that came with it until if finally failed. I'vby Karl_Williams - General Mendel Topics
My Gen 6 board makes all that noise too and it is a design flaw. I read that someone had soldered a 1nF ceramic cap across R12, on their gen 6 board to reduce it (under potential hardware fixes): If you read this post it says, "20-12-2010: Batch2 is scheduled to arrive in wk1 or wk2 2011. This batch2 gen6 is the same except the high pitchy sound (while not printing) has been reduced/removed."by Karl_Williams - Controllers
I remember something about having to run that installer twice in a row to get it to work.by Karl_Williams - General
I'm using 2.8.14 on Windows 7 64-bit for the gen 6 deluxe but I was also using for the regular gen 6 board before I upgraded. It can be downloaded here There is a set up executable on the right of the list or you can download the drivers in a zip file. You might have to right click on the port, uninstall it and then run the ftdi setup.by Karl_Williams - General
If you bought the gen 6 board directly from mendel-parts then it might have firmware installed but it might not. I emailed them a few times but didn't get an answer. The gen 6 deluxe board I got from them didn't have anything installed on it. You can get the firmware here: You'll probably have to change the DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT setting in the configuration.h file to match your Prusa.by Karl_Williams - General
Thanks for sharing the info! I have been having trouble with my hot end and would like to eventually build my own so this will help. Did you use silver solder for the heat sink?by Karl_Williams - General
I have been using Repetier host and it has been working well with a Gen6 Deluxe board and Marlin firmware. Repetier has Slic3r built in and can be configured to use Skeinforge or a different version of Slic3r if you want. I do my slicing with Skeinforge because I've got it tuned so well for my Mendel.by Karl_Williams - General
Vectorwrite is working with the new 50_reprap_python_beanshell version of Skeinforge. I'm using it to make slices for the laser cutter.by Karl_Williams - Skeinforge
